Festung Hohensalzburg

 A beautiful ceramic heating stove in the Fortress

 The Hohensalzburg Fortress ( the Festung) has a variety of attractions awaiting discovery.  Although the views of the Old Town  from atop  the Fortress are spectacular, there are many other treasures to be savored during your visit.

The ceramic stove on the left is a dramatic example of the quality of the furnishing of the Fortress and we think the collection will leave you amazed. 

As you wander inside and outside of the buildings you will see much to appreciate.  The inner ward shown below, is a popular meeting place surrounded by a number of interesting buildings and an archaeological site or two.  The views of the Fortress from its different sections reveal its many unique characteristics.

 The Fortress is massive and towers above you as you tour. There are excellent views from several areas of the Fortress

The "torture chamber" shown on the left below has a number of unique implements including the "chastity belt" on the left and "embarrassing mask" in the center.  If that is not scary enough, visit the Marionette World before your cable car ride down the hill.
