Melk

Lake Wörthersee and Klagenfurt have an intimate and unifying relationship.  The city is connected to the lake via a canal (Lendkanal), although its western edge  (shown above) abuts the lake.  There are a number of interesting towns to visit along the lake's shore, as well as miles of delightful scenery.

       

Located on a hilltop above Melk, the Benedictine Abbey remains a monastic house today, over 900 years since the founding of the original abbey on this site.
