The Hofburg, a royal palace of the Hapsburgs

The Hofburg (above) was the main palace of the Hapsburgs, once one of the most important empires in Europe. Today the Hofburg is a complex of buildings that house an enormous variety of attractions. Be sure to see the Imperial Treasury and the Imperial Apartments. For the music lovers in the crowd, the Vienna Boys' Choir performs at the mass in the Imperial Chapel on Sundays. Of course, the complex also houses the Spanish Riding School with its famous Lippizan ballet.

The glorious Schonbrunn Palace

The Schönbrunn Palace (Schloss Schönbrunn) served as the summer residence of the Hapsburgs. It is considered one of the most attractive Baroque palaces in Europe. Be sure to tour the Palace to see its enchanting interior design and fine furnishings. The gardens, however, will attract your eye, especially if you visit in late spring.  The Neptune Fountain is in the foreground and the Gloriette is shown in the background.  See our new Vienna Guide for more information on visiting the Schönbrunn Palace.
