Travel Tips

Most of us grow used to writing down our reservation confirmation and never having to use them.  Keep it up, because eventually you will need to rely on the confirmation to establish the consideration that you are due at hotels and rental car agencies.

Travel Advice/Travel Tips -  Get confirmation numbers for your reservations

When you make travel reservations, make sure that you ask for a confirmation number.

  • If you are booking on-line, print out your confirmation number, record locator, and the details of your booking.
  • If you make your reservations by phone, ask for a confirmation number and request that the reservation details be confirmed in writing.
    • Any serious business will provide this service by snail mail or email.

Being able to refer to your reservation details provides needed leverage when there is a problem with the booking.  Without the reservation confirmation, you have no way to convince the service provider that  you actually reserved anything from them.

Be sure to store all of your reservation confirmation numbers in a safe place.  Consider consolidating them into one master lists and storing a copy in your money belt.  If you use a PDA or handheld computer, store the confirmation email and refer to that if you need to validate your reservation.
