Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein and the most popular tourist destination in the country. The Royal Palace looks majestic on the ridge above the town but it not open to the public, as it is the home of the Royal Family. The town has good quality restaurants and nice shops.

Liechtenstein is a small, compact country. Most of its towns are nestled in the Rhine Valley and have a wonderful, rural charm.

If Vaduz sounds attractive to you, you may want to visit Balzers or Triesen, two  towns that retain the distinct Liechtenstein ambiance. For most tourists, the attraction of Liechtenstein is the scenery.

If you can get to the higher elevations  the mountains are even more beautiful than when seen from the valley. The country is very crowded during the summer tourist season and its small size slows down traffic and touring.
