In addition, Italy is a destination where your schedule may be disrupted by strikes, work stoppages or influenced by the Italian take on life (shops may close after lunch, to reopen later that day). Italy is one of the world's most popular tourist destination and many of the towns and attractions that we recommend are extremely crowded in summer. In addition, summer in Italy can be very hot and humid (some might say "miserable"). So, be sure to plan ahead.  If you can visit during the "Shoulder Season" (the months immediately before and after summer), do so.
