The Rouen Cathedral, painted many times by Monet

Rouen
Rouen, the capital of Normandy, is historically significant, offers architectural delights, pleasant shopping, and delightful cafes. Its Notre Dame Cathedral is an edifice well known in the art world thanks to Monet who painted it many times in an attempt to perfect his technique. The gothic church St. Maclou is a delight from the Middle Ages. A walk along the pedestrian area surrounding Rude du Gros-Horloge provides good shopping. Finally, Rouen is the city where Joan of Arc was martyred.
