Brugge: Best Places to Visit
Brugge, often called Venice of the North, is the most popular and deserving tourist destination in the Benelux. Although Brussels has better food and Amsterdam has more noteworthy museums, Brugge's time capsule-like ambiance provides the traveler an environment for "discovery" and "exploration" uncommon in the Benelux countries.  Brugge has a well-maintained historic core that has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Brugge was one of the world’s leading cities in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries when it thrived on international commerce and had a population equivalent to London’s. The city’s harbor silted up in the middle of the fifteenth century and Brugge fell into decline, surpassed in importance by Antwerp.

Today's  Brugge is a tourist's delight. It is compact and made for walking, boating, wandering, and relaxing.
